PROPOSAL

Dear Mrs. Boutilier:

For my capstone, I'm going to be helping with Roberto Clemente day at our school.  The challenge with this project this year is going to be figuring out how we can successfully experience Roberto Clemente day as an all-new online experience, by creating a pre-recorded video that we will be working on constantly up until we believe it is the best it can be, While also having meetings with the committee and constantly planning and adding new ideas. Roberto Clemente day is a day to celebrate the great man Roberto Clemente was as well as importantly his heritage. For me when it comes to this project I want to focus more on the technology side to help out, like coordinating the online and technical parts of this celebration.im doing projects with a group of people from our school, Javier Custodio, Gabriel Custodio, and Michael Infante and led by Alex Mercado. The reasoning for me doing this project, I wanted the ability to learn skills such as creating a successful online event while being able to create an impact by showing off what a great man Roberto Clemente was and maybe use his ideas to help inspire someone to do something great while also teaching people about this amazing man.

My research question I'd like to explore is, how do you get people more involved into events and how can that be incorporated virtually? I wanted to research this because I wanted to learn how to run a successful interactive online event and how to have people interact and feel more involved in an event. Now during the time of covid 19, I believe that having a good interaction over the internet. Now it is more important than ever to find any way to get that social interaction that every human needs, I do know the now it's difficult for people to have that kind of connection and I believe there are certain things that can be done to improve these online meets to make them feel more welcoming to have those interactions.

My mentor for this project is Nygel White he runs the YouMedia program at the Hartford Public Library. I chose him to be my mentor as he has lots of experience in film editing and will teach me the basics of not only editing but also help me ways that the video can go. He is available at nwhite@hplct.org or his phone number (860) 819-1453. I think this project will help me expand out of my comfort zone. I'm normally the person who likes to be behind the scenes running everything and making sure everything runs smoothly. For this, I can't just only do that I'm gonna have to step up and help make this event unlike any other in the past. Taking this amazing tradition and transitioning it for the first time into a fully online experience while still making it feel inviting, fun, and welcoming. In addition to this I'm gonna have to be in front of the camera presenting and teaching to others about the amazing life of Roberto Clemente.

Sincerely,

Dolan Cassone

My Story

Roberto Clemente Celebration event wasn't always my first choice for capstone. Coming into this year I never had many ideas of what I wanted to do. I struggled at first trying to come up with an idea while slowly falling behind in the class due to not having one chosen. One day while I was checking my email I saw that the committee needed a member experienced with video editing and general knowledge of technology as during Covid we weren't able to hold an in person event like they've always had. Their challenge for this year was being able to overcome the problems that have occurred due to Covid and make the event happen virtually which initially got me interested due to the fact that that technology is something I've always been knowledgeable about and interested in. Putting my skills of technology to the test not only helps others learn how to use it more fluently but also being able to organize the event.
